Europe with a Difference

From the sleek Eurostar, which whisks you through London before emerging from the Channel Tunnel into the French countryside, to its efficient rail network, Europe is seemingly tailor-made for rail travel. As you enjoy a smooth ride into the heart of your destination, luxuriating in the ever-changing views that roll by your window, it's hard to deny that travelling by train offers a different view.

Italy is famous world-over for its art, gastronomy, and classical cities, and on our rail holidays, we showcase the best of its sights, sounds, and tastes. Explore the worldclass cities of Rome and Florence, discover charming port towns which sit in the shade of colourful lemon groves, soak up the serenity of stunning lakes, and sample delectable local wines against the striking rural backdrops of world-class vineyards.

  • Travel over beautiful bridges that cut across incredible lakeside and valley scenery on the breathtaking Centovalli Railway. This historic line originally opened in 1923 and takes passengers on a wonderful journey from northern Italy into Switzerland.
  • Sightseeing in Italy is truly second-tonone. Immerse yourself in history at the ancient Colosseum in Rome, fall under the spell of the 'Floating City' as you explore the narrow lanes and grand canals of Venice, and marvel at the stunning villas that line the azure shores of Lake Como.
  • Italian cuisine needs little introduction, and with free time built into each itinerary, you have plenty of time to sample some delicious Italian classics for yourself. Try Arancini - rich, deepfried stuffed rice balls - in southern Italy, or grab a slice of Neapolitan-style pizza in its birthplace of Naples.

Benelux, France & the Mediterranean

The timeless sophistication of France, the atmospheric cities of Benelux, and the glorious coastline of the southern Mediterranean are all waiting to be discovered. Discover these captivating destinations by rail as you explore charming medieval towns, kaleidoscopic floral gardens, or sparkling, sun-soaked coves.

  • With sheer valley walls dotted by pine trees on quarry stone, the Nùria Valley is a place of incomparable charm. One of the few ways to take in the stunning views of this hidden paradise is the Nùria Valley Rack Railway, which climbs over 3,280 feet through the Pyrenees.
  • Discover some of Europe's most beautiful rural scenery. In France, take in bucolic countryside, serene rivers, and picturesque coastlines. Further south, discover the sandy beaches and wild National Parks of the Mediterranean, and in the Netherlands, experience a cornucopia of colour at world-famous flower gardens.
  • Immerse yourself in captivating history in this intriguing part of the world, where fascinating insights await around seemingly every corner. Step back in time with visits to poignant WW1 battlefields, exquisite French châteaux, and ornate historic churches.
