Scotland by Rail - Escorted Holidays

Scotland's bold culture, rich heritage and astounding natural beauty make it the perfect backdrop for a truly remarkable holiday. Our rail tours of Scotland introduce you to the heart and soul of the enthralling country, from the rural islands that lie just of its coast to its lively capital of Edinburgh which draws visitors throughout the year. Many of our rail holidays give you the opportunity to admire Scotland's dramatically beautiful Highlands and lochs in comfort during journeys on renowned heritage railways.

Exploring Scotland with Rail Discoveries

There are a wide variety of excursions included in our rail tours of Scotland, which range from scenic tours such as boat trips and city tours to more sociable activities like whisky tasting. Guests also have plenty of free time for exploring independently, meaning that you will have the opportunity to shop, socialise or revisit sights.

There are many jewels amongst Scotland's breath-taking landscape including the vibrant capital of Edinburgh where historic fortresses and a medieval Old Town blend with the city's more modern areas. There are also many idyllic coastal hamlets such as the charming seaport of Oban where you can sample fresh seafood in a local café or explore the local attractions that line its port. During your time in the more rural areas of Scotland you may witness some of the country's phenomenal wildlife which includes a variety of birds and mammals.

“Had a great time, food was lovely in all hotels, trips were very organised, we do fancy going on some trips that are abroad with rail discoveries and after the trip we have just been on would definitely book again with rail discoveries. Maggie our tour operator was very helpful, friendly, knowledgeable, very enjoyable trip.

“Beautiful scenic locations, varied transport - rail, coach and boat - all organised for us. Luggage transported for us from Glasgow to hotel In Crianlarich.and back to Glasgow at end - much appreciated. Hotel very good, comfortable, good food , pleasant bar and adjacent areas. shame no real ale but can't have everything! Stopover in Glasgow - well located hotel on River Clyde - in beginning perhaps a bit over-long - we arrived Sunday and didn't leave till 4.30 next day which meant later part of journey was in dark and it would have been nice to have time to settle in the hotel and take a stroll, instead of just arriving in time for dinner. But cruise on Loch Lomond, train to Oban and sailing to Mull, then travelling through the majestic Glencoe scenery to the steam train to Mallaig -what's not to like?! Tour manager ever present but never intrusive, could just relax and let it all happen! Would recommend.

“Very disappointed we didn’t go to Skye and Harris. Also came home with COVID-19 as I think more care could have been taken in some of the hotels.
