Norwich & Norfolk

“Had a lovely time. Visited the castle and the cathedral on our free day and enjoyed the Norfolk Broads boat trip and Sandringham. The hotel staff were charming and food good. I would have appreciated a safe in our room as I brought some jewellery to wear in the evenings. Also a magnifying mirror in the bathroom. The lady who took us on the tour around the city was irritating. She said “OK” and “alright” more than 40 times each. Irritating. I wouldn’t use her again. (I used to train teachers!)

“This trip is excellent as it combines regional and cultural experiences with trips on both preserved and main line rail travel with the latter used several times which does not seem to occur on other holidays. It also is based out of a hotel right next to Carlisle main line station which is excellent for railway enthusiasts and is also in the city of Carlisle itself which is also a bonus! An altogether good experience and I must mention the hotel staff. Their attention to us was exceptional, the meals excellent and after such a difficult time for the their trade and for their personal lives thanks to the scourge of covid, their upbeat enthusiasm had to be seen to believed. I do hope even more of these holidays are based at the same hotel to help recognise the determination and commitment of the staff. Thank you all. A final thanks to Tom the group leader. His quiet approach but very high level of availability at the key moments during the trip was very encouraging and reassuring. Thanks Tom. A good experience and well recommended. Regards to all, Alan Radford

“It was great to be able to tour the Isle of Wight during a pandemic. Lots of precautions were taken (sanitisers, face masks, etc.). We did manage to visit all places in the schedule come rain or shine; and credit to our tour manager Ivan for seeing all went to plan.

“Weather was kind, scenery beautiful, hotel was comfortable but needs some updating once the visitors roll in. Coach travel took up a lot of time and each day made it rather tiring. Wold have appreciated First Class on the steam trains to make it extra special. Not your fault , but the train from Pitlochry to Edinburgh was a nightmare. No social distancing, every seat taken up when we boarded and bikes clogging passage up. Fortunately a young person offered me her seat, otherwise I might have had to stand right to Edinburgh!!

“The hotel was very good and the food good. The staff were very helpful particularly helping me with my electric scooter. Rosie Sharp, our guide, was excellent in arranging things for us going beyond the call of duty. The coach driver, Dave Harvey, was very helpful and we enjoyed the company of our fellow travellers. Even the station workers were exceptionally helpful to me, a disabled man.

“The trip to Delft was so disappointing. Not enough time to see this town. The walk from the coach park took such a chunk of our visiting time. Although the coach was not allowed ( seemingly only if you held a German international driving plate ). Both my wife and I were very greatly disappointed with the hotel room. No air conditioning. British station on TV not accessible. A bathroom that did not accommodate the size of an adult. Neither of us are grossly overweight but found using the bathroom extremely depressing inconvenient and bordering on claustrophobic. The toppers on our beds kept moving. To get into and out of one of our beds it was necessary to shuffle sideways. Noise not only of local building works but also in the hotel definitely interrupted my wife's sleep. Insufficient storage space. 5 coat hangers and only open shelving - no drawers. For one night ok but not for 4 nights for two people. No safe in our room as we had believed - only one in reception. Julie, our tour guide was excellent.

Culture, History, and Natural Wonders

At the heart of our short breaks in Europe is a range of excursions, designed to introduce you to the most significant natural, cultural, and historical attractions that a destination has to offer. These might be a journey on a heritage railway, a visit to a national park, or a guided tour of a city centre.

Local guides sometimes join our excursions to give you an even richer experience on your short break, sharing their intimate knowledge of an area or suggesting unique places to visit. However, our guides and Tour Managers are not there to tell you how to enjoy your holiday; you are free to explore independently, if you wish.

Alhambra

We choose our accommodation based on the quality of facilities and the value for money offered, as well as the hotel's proximity to nearby attractions and the local train station. Local families run many of our European hotels as we find they offer a more personal, friendly atmosphere to our guests.

The services of one of our professional Tour Managers are included in the price of your holiday to ensure that your time in Europe is as enjoyable and relaxing as possible. Our Tour Managers can assist you with anything from travel advice to suggestions about the best places to eat, and they are always happy to help.
