“The tour was great. It gave a great taste of all the heritage railways in Norfolk. The days had just enough things in so it you always had something to do, but you didn't feel rushed at all. Even with covid restrictions, all the things we did were normal enough to enjoy to their fullest. The tour manager was very friendly, helpful and went above and beyond to ensure the tour went smoothly.

“The Isle of Wight remains one of the UK’s unspoilt treasures and has remained so for many years. I first visited in the 1950’s. The only problem is Sandown sea front where there are a number of derelict buildings, but this is the fault of the local council rather than the island. Nevertheless it would be good if something was done about this sooner than later.

“Most of this trip was excellent, from booking, postponing and rebooking, the day-today programmes and particularly our Tour Manager Nicky. The Hotel was convenient, next to the station and right in the middle of Carlisle, and individual staff were friendly and helpful. The reasons I only gave 4 stars were a) The food. For the Welcome Dinner on first evening the chicken was dried out and the potatoes undercooked. Breakfasts - a good selection but the cooked elements left open and were frequently dried up. Bedroom tea tray. We understood why daily full cleaning of bedrooms was on hold due to Covid restrictions, but why was it necessary to have to fill in a form to replace every tea-bag or milk portion? b) bedrooms. The original antislip pattern in the bath had worn a bit thin, so a note by the bath advised 'If you can't find your bathmat please ask'. Why not leave it IN the bathroom and not hide it in the wardrobe? The toilet needed 5 go's to make it flush properly The hot water was not as hot as it should be. c) Cleanliness. A note outside the lift said 'This lift is cleaned regularly'. It clearly wasn't. the same bits of rubbish and marks on the wall were present for 4 days. We could sympathise with the slightly worn stair carpets in several places but, but again they did not appear to have been hoovered for a week. Overall it fell short of our expectation of an AA 3 star hotel

“The trip to Delft was so disappointing. Not enough time to see this town. The walk from the coach park took such a chunk of our visiting time. Although the coach was not allowed ( seemingly only if you held a German international driving plate ). Both my wife and I were very greatly disappointed with the hotel room. No air conditioning. British station on TV not accessible. A bathroom that did not accommodate the size of an adult. Neither of us are grossly overweight but found using the bathroom extremely depressing inconvenient and bordering on claustrophobic. The toppers on our beds kept moving. To get into and out of one of our beds it was necessary to shuffle sideways. Noise not only of local building works but also in the hotel definitely interrupted my wife's sleep. Insufficient storage space. 5 coat hangers and only open shelving - no drawers. For one night ok but not for 4 nights for two people. No safe in our room as we had believed - only one in reception. Julie, our tour guide was excellent.

Culture, History, and Natural Wonders

At the heart of our short breaks in Europe is a range of excursions, designed to introduce you to the most significant natural, cultural, and historical attractions that a destination has to offer. These might be a journey on a heritage railway, a visit to a national park, or a guided tour of a city centre.

Local guides sometimes join our excursions to give you an even richer experience on your short break, sharing their intimate knowledge of an area or suggesting unique places to visit. However, our guides and Tour Managers are not there to tell you how to enjoy your holiday; you are free to explore independently, if you wish.

Alhambra

We choose our accommodation based on the quality of facilities and the value for money offered, as well as the hotel's proximity to nearby attractions and the local train station. Local families run many of our European hotels as we find they offer a more personal, friendly atmosphere to our guests.

The services of one of our professional Tour Managers are included in the price of your holiday to ensure that your time in Europe is as enjoyable and relaxing as possible. Our Tour Managers can assist you with anything from travel advice to suggestions about the best places to eat, and they are always happy to help.

Browse the extensive range of holidays listed below to find one that suits you or call one of our Tour Advisors on 01904 730 148 for more information about our short breaks by rail.
