What to expect from an escorted group holiday

22 December 2022

Holidays are important. They give us time to relax, recharge, see new places and immerse ourselves in local culture. Even though they're important we might only have one a year so of course, it needs to be memorable for all the right reasons.

If you're reading this, you're considering taking a future trip on an escorted group holiday. Here's a short guide to what you can expect.

What is it like travelling with a group?

Travelling with a group is a great chance to experience new things alongside like-minded people. You will never feel herded, but the Tour Manager will make sure you're always where you need to be when you need to be there.

It's also great for solo travellers who want to explore independently but have the security and reassurance of travelling with others.

What does the Tour Manager do?

Your Tour Manager will meet you at your tour departure point. On our European holidays this will be at our departure office at London St Pancras, your airport if you opt for one of our Fly:Rail tours and at the starting hotel for our UK holidays.

Your Tour Manager will then be with you for the duration of your holiday to take care of all the details. This means you can take time to truly relax, safe in the knowledge that someone else has organised everything from train reservations to hotels and transfers.

Will we have time to ourselves?

Free time is built into every holiday, so you can hunt out that off-the-grid restaurant, or just let your feet lead you down an appealing side street.

Each place you stay is hand-picked to put you in the perfect spot with plenty to discover on your doorstep. You can relax with new friends over good food at the end of each memorable day and share your stories -that's the beauty of travelling with a group.

Our Tour Managers are on hand to provide suggestions for places to go and things to do when there's a free day. As you explore independently they will fade into the background.

Do I have to carry my luggage?

We do have options available to have your luggage transferred so you don't have to worry about carrying them on and off trains. Get in touch with our UK-based team who can assist you with luggage options.

If you don't choose to use a luggage service through us then, yes, you will need to lift your own case onto and off trains, and onto luggage racks within trains. You may also need to carry it some distance between platforms/stations or to hotels. Please note that your Tour Manager cannot provide individual assistance with boarding trains or coaches, or carrying your luggage.

What's included?

Our holidays include all travel, hotel accommodation, excursions and the services of your Tour Manager. Meals are also included but the number varies depending on the holiday you choose. Our All Inclusive holidays are a great option if you're looking for everything included. We don't like hidden surprises so, to find out the exact details of what's included on each holiday, visit individual holiday pages such as Glacier Express All Inclusive and Catalonia & Little Trains of the Pyrenees. Alternatively, request a brochure to explore our full range of holidays at your leisure.
