Renowned for the beautiful views it offers, the West Highland Line runs from Glasgow's Queen Street Station to Mallaig and Oban on the West Coast of Scotland. Easily one of the most scenic routes in Britain, the line was voted the 'Top Rail Journey in the World' by readers of Wanderlust Magazine in 2009 and 2010. “I enjoyed this trip but did feel it was top heavy with the group constantly moving and it was rushed at times. People mostly elderly got tired.Whoever planned it is ambitious. We would have benefitted from a rest day or a few hours out.I appreciate one can drop out of trips but that is not the point.Anyway we had to get to the next destination. There was not much train travel. We had a coach a lot of the time. It was the nature of the journey one could not take a train. I think a musical event would have been diverting one eve. Our group was fortunate because we had amazingly good weather.Great visability. Lewis is beautiful and we were able to enjoy it and the beaches. However unless you are interested in history and the wonderful scenery there is little else there. If one gets bad weather and it is likely there is no reason to go.Unless you are climbing or engaging in sporting activity. Our tour guide was attentive and I consider the trip value for money.
