Highlights

What’s included

Itinerary

Day 1 - London and Vancouver

We fly from London Heathrow to Vancouver for two nights and check in to our hotel on arrival.

Day 2 - Vancouver

We enjoy a morning sightseeing tour of one of the country's largest and most cosmopolitan cities, visiting historic Gastown, an area of coffee shops, galleries and native art stores and one of Vancouver's best-loved neighbourhoods. We also experience Stanley Park. Larger than Central Park and home to over half a million trees, Stanley Park first opened in 1888, quickly becoming a widely recognised symbol of the city known for its beauty. The park's most famous feature has to be its large collection of totem poles, displaying the impressive designs of the indigenous peoples of North America. We continue to Chinatown, soaking up the area's enticing scents and sights. Your afternoon is free to explore this vibrant destination further. You could take a walk in Queen Elizabeth Park, a former rock quarry offering panoramic views over the city.

Day 3 - Kamloops

Leaving Vancouver behind, we travel by coach to Kamloops for the night, stopping in the town of Hope with free time to get lunch. We continue via the mountainous Coquihalla Pass, traversing stunning landscapes and reaching 4,000 feet in altitude. Once in Kamloops, we check into our hotel for the night.

Day 4 - Banff

Back on board our coach, we continue our journey eastwards to Banff for two nights, stopping en route at Revelstoke. Our scenic route takes us through more of Canada's incredible scenery, and we have the chance to soak up the sights of towering mountains, peaceful lakes and dense evergreen forests as we travel. This evening, after settling in, we meet a retired member of the Royal Canadian Mounted Police, also known as a Mountie, who tells us about their unique experiences and gives us time to ask any questions we may have about their years in service.

Day 5 - Banff and Yoho National Park

We discover the beauty of Banff's famous National Park, visiting Lake Louise, a glacier-fed lake surrounded by soaring peaks and dense pine forests, before continuing to the Spiral Tunnels. This ingenious piece of railway track is an incredible feat of engineering which allows trains to traverse the steep, mountainous terrain via two looping tunnels. If we're lucky, we may see a train snaking through the tunnels themselves. Next, we make a stop at Emerald Lake in Yoho National Park. As its name suggests, this body of water is known for its fantastically vibrant colours, so you may find yourself grabbing your camera.

Day 6 - The Icefields Parkway

Travelling by coach along the renowned Icefields Parkway - a 144-mile road that links Lake Louise with Jasper and cuts through some of the world's greatest mountain scenery - we arrive at the Columbia Icefields Discovery Centre, at the foot of the vast Columbia Icefield. We have time to marvel at the ancient Athabasca Glacier before we continue our journey past many of the highest peaks in the Rockies, pausing at scenic spots, including the Athabasca Falls, on our way to Jasper for the night.

Day 7 - The Canadian

Enjoy a free morning in Jasper before we board The Canadian to start our iconic, cross-country journey. Our on-board accommodation consists of a cosy berth, shielded by a heavy curtain for privacy, with access to shared bathroom facilities in the same sleeper car. During the journey, you may like to wander to one of the observation cars for views of the spectacular scenery as the train passes through Jasper National Park.

Day 8 - The Canadian

We spend our first full day on board The Canadian today. As we cross the vast and wild landscapes, there's a good chance of spotting the local wildlife, which includes eagles, elk, moose and bears.

Day 9 - The Canadian

Our journey continues through the Rockies towards bustling Toronto.

Day 10 - Toronto

We arrive in multicultural Toronto for a two-night stay, The city has a wealth of museums, excellent restaurants, and thriving shopping areas. It's also home to the world's longest street, Yonge Street, and the dramatic CN tower. With free time to explore at your own pace, you might like to try one of the many trendy eateries in the downtown area. Maybe make your way to Toronto's unique Distillery District, where you'll find many art galleries, eateries and live music venues. The Victorian brick-paved streets of this neighbourhood are UNESCO-listed.

Day 11 - Niagara Falls

We make our way to the US-Canadian border to see the magnificent Niagara Falls, a stunning natural spectacle with three separate sections - American Falls, Bridal Veil Falls and Canadian Horseshoe Falls - formed about 12,000 years ago, when melting glaciers created a passage of water from Lake Erie to Lake Ontario. We enjoy a boat cruise through the dramatic mists that form at the base of the falls, allowing us up-close views of the thundering waters. Afterwards, we visit Table Rock viewpoint before continuing to Niagara Gorge to see the natural whirlpool which formed here thousands of years ago.

Day 12 - Toronto

Enjoy a free morning to do any last-minute sightseeing ahead of our transfer to the airport and flight back to London Heathrow.

Day 13 - London
