The Circumetnea Railway

One of the best ways to see the rumbling power of Mount Etna in Sicily, the Circumetnea Train follows a route encircling this awesome stratovolcano, stopping along the way at some quaint stations. It begins at Catania on the coast before heading inland on a semi-circle route which brings its passengers back round to the coast to the harbour town of Riposto. The Circumetnea is a narrow-gauge train, and against the background of the white peak of Etna, this railway is well worth a visit.

“We did find the four early morning starts a bit challenging and although we were told "this was in the itinery" the start time was not mentioned in the brochure. Also two trip days one after the other was a bit much then one day break and another two days of trips. At the end we had a free day and the best part of another day when we left. this could have been better organised we thought.
