The Schwarzwaldbahn mountain railway runs along a 150km route through tunnels and over viaducts across the spectacular Black Forest passing lush vineyards and beautiful scenery as the train travels from Offenburg to Singen. Built between 1863 and 1873 the Schwarzwaldbahn railway initially operated to shorten the journey between Offenburg and Singen from 240km to 150km as well as serving as a means to improve accessibility to small isolated communities in the southern part of the Black Forest. The railway has remained popular with both the Black Forest locals and tourists alike, ever since its opening.
