GoldenPass Line

Running between Montreux and Lucerne, journeys on the GoldenPass Line are a wonderful introduction to Switzerland and give you the opportunity to see the country at its very best. Travelling on ultra-modern panoramic trains, you experience unparalleled views of some of Switzerland's finest scenery, from dramatic peaks to glittering lakes and remote, untouched forests.

Beginning in Montreux, the GoldenPass Line runs through a series of impressive horseshoe curves as it climbs into the vineyards above the town, offering magnificent views of Lake Geneva and the surrounding peaks. The train then heads towards the Jaman Tunnel - the longest on the line. The tunnel marks the end of the Mediterranean landscape, and the start of the wild and dramatic Alpine scenery. We ascend to the fashionable resort of Gstaad and then climb further, crossing a viaduct before reaching the summit of the line, the Saanenmöser Pass, at 4,183 feet. From here we steadily descend to the village of Zweisimmen, where we change trains and embark on a journey through the Simmental region. The GoldenPass Line continues to historic Spiez and then descends to Lake Thun, where it follows the southern shore to Interlaken.

As the GoldenPass Line leaves Interlaken it follows the northern shores of Lake Brienz, and shortly afterwards we reach Brienz. From here we travel through a flat valley of orchards to the town of Meiringen. On leaving Meiringen, the GoldenPass Line begins the climb to the Brünig Pass and the summit station of Brünig Hasliberg at 3,307 feet. We then begin our descent through a remote valley dotted with farms, before we pass the Lungernsee with its distinctive, almost turquoise waters. From here we begin a steep descent to Giswil, which offers excellent views over another small lake, the Sarnersee. From here the GoldenPass Line continues to Alpnachstad and along the shores of the Alpnachersee; the sheer cliffs rising from the lake provide us with some spectacular scenery. From here we enter a tunnel and emerge on the shores of Lake Lucerne, arriving shortly afterwards at our destination, the beautiful city of Lucerne.
