Trentham Gardens
Day 3

After picking up your freshly cooked Pork Pies this morning and tasting your handiwork, you enjoy an excursion to Trentham Gardens. Here you join Trentham's very own Tour Guide and learn the history and horticulture of this opulent country estate. The house itself was demolished, like many of its kind, in the early part of the 20th century. The beautiful gardens however have been retained in all their former glory and are now amongst the most visited in the nation. The Gardens are Italianate in design and are set within some 300 acres of woodland. These gardens were also the handiwork of the illustrious Capability Brown, who designed them as a serpentine park. Later, we transfer to Leicester North station to take the steam-hauled Great Central Railway through charming English countryside on the UK's only double track heritage line, where full size steam engines can be seen passing each other in awe-inspiring style. Four stations feature along the route, each one restored to a different period in the railway line's long commercial history, covering the regality of the Edwardian era, the Second World War, postwar Britain and finishing in the swinging 1960's just outside of Leicester.
