Day 2

This morning you set off along the Seine as you make your way firstly to Poissy, passing Paris's La Défense District. After mooring at Poissy, you have the opportunity to take a visit to the famous Versailles Palace, on an optional excursion. Here you can enjoy an guided tour of the former Royal home, once the seat of the French monarchy up until the Revolution. This spectacular building is awash with awe-inspiring interiors, rich in colour and jewels, including the historically important Hall of Mirrors, a meeting place of French government and famously the site of the Treaty of Versailles signing, which brought an official end to the conflict of World War One. The grandeur of the palace is matched only by its rich history and importance throughout the everchanging political climate of this historic country. The gardens are equally as impressive, and the grounds are some of the most recognisable in the world, featuring a web of manicured lawns, extravagant fountains and dramatic sculptures. Much is built around a series of lakes and canal waterways that feed the mesmerizing fountains in the centre of the park. Tonight a sumptuous Gala dinner will be served as we sail towards Rouen.

Day 3

Rouen and onto Honfleur

This morning you begin sailing through a landscape of steep cliffs and timeless villages. Here there is the chance to set out on an optional, guided excursion along the Route des Abbayes, exploring the abbeys that line the route of the river by coach. Stretching between Rouen and Mont-Saint-Michel, the historic trail takes visitors on a journey back in time.

With this region of Northern France playing home to religious orders from the 5th century onwards, at one point the scenic trail we follow boasted 120 sites of worship. Then continue upriver on oyur way to Rouen. Here, take an included guided tour of the city, discovering more about its history from the Roman period to the Middle Ages, as you take in the Gothic architecture and medieval buildings.

Day 4

Exploring Honfleur

After breakfast this morning, enjoy a guided tour of Honfleur, which is centred on its charming historic port and marina - the 'Vieux Bassin' - and boasts a number of preserved traditional buildings. The port area comes to life as darkness falls, with numerous restaurants, cafés and bars spilling onto the street beside the harbour. There is also a beautiful, illuminated carousel in situ almost all year round. Additionally, the town is famous as being the inspiration for many artists, including Monet, Courbet and Boudin. They chose this historic fishing port as the location for the Ecole de Honfleur, an artists' colony which inspired the Impressionist movement. Then return to the ship for lunch, after which you may wish to take the optional excursion to the Côte Fleurie, or 'Flower Coast'.

This 40 kilometre stretch of the Northern French seafront is famed for its far-reaching, sandy beaches and traditional seaside towns. Once a holiday hotspot for the rich and famous during the late 19th century, it is so named partly because of the landscapes that many consider to be a wonderful example of Normandy's lush countryside, but also bacause of the number of extravagant gardens built here during the Belle Epoque era. If you choose to join this trip you will return to the A-Rosa Stella in time for dinner, and after sailing upriver you spend tonight moored in Duclair.
