Days 1-2 - To Chianciano Terme

From London, take the Eurostar to Paris. Continue by rail to Turin where you spend the night. On Day 2, travel by rail to Florence and continue to Chianciano Terme.

Your base here is the 3* Hotel Astra, which boasts an ideal location on a lovely tree-lined street.

Day 3 - Lake Trasimeno

After breakfast this morning, you are at leisure to settle into your surroundings. This afternoon, transfer to Castiglione del Lago on Lake Trasimeno, a beautiful lake whose shores are dotted with the ruins of medieval castles. Just slightly smaller than Lake Como, Lake Trasimeno is one of Italy's largest and most popular lakes. You enjoy a boat trip across the shimmering waters to Isola Maggiore, the only inhabited island on the lake with a population of just 35. Your boat journey provides you with wonderful views of azure waters, quaint lakeside villages, and the surrounding hills.

Back in Castiglione del Lago, you are at leisure to explore. The medieval walled town is located on a promontory overlooking the lake and is based around its historic castle, which has withstood a number of sieges over the years. Discover its old-world charm with a walk through the beautiful centre of the Old Town.

Day 4 - Florence

Head to Florence this morning for a guided walking tour. Known for its alluring Renaissance architecture, picturesque narrow streets and squares, and spellbinding artworks, Florence is a treasure to behold.

This afternoon, you are at leisure to explore the Tuscan capital. Why take the time to climb up the 414 steps of Giotto's Campanile, and enjoy an incredible sight across the rooftops of Florence? Alternatively, you may like to enjoy a delicious coffee whilst savouring the atmosphere of the city and its buzzing streets. There are also a plethora of fascinating art galleries and museums, such as the world-famous Uffizi Gallery, which houses as many as 1,700 Renaissance masterpieces - a delight to explore as you while away the hours in this iconic Italian city.

Days 5-6 - Siena and San Gimignano

You are at leisure today. Perhaps relax around the hotel's swimming pool or in the pretty gardens, or head out to explore Chianciano Terme a little further. There are a number of charming cafés, bars, and shops within walking distance - you could indulge in a refreshing scoop of authentic gelato.

On Day 6, travel by coach to Siena to explore its medieval piazzas, quaint streets, and stunning Romanesque architecture on a guided tour, followed by some time to explore at leisure. The centre of Siena has been designated a UNESCO World Heritage site, and for good reason. Known throughout the continent as one of Europe's most amazing medieval squares, Piazza del Campo is a gloriously golden-hued, shell-shaped square, and since 1644 has hosted the annual Il Palio horse race, where the different contrada, or districts, compete for civic pride.

Day 7 - Assisi

Today's excursion takes you to Assisi for a fascinating guided walking tour. The birthplace of St Francis, a leading figure in Christianity, the immaculately-preserved city now attracts tourists and pilgrims alike who flock to the city to see where St Francis spent the early years of his life.

Your tour includes entrance to the UNESCOlisted basilica, the jewel in Assisi's crown. Dating back to the 1570s, this magnificent structure serves as the burial place of St Francis, and is truly breathtaking to visit, decorated with beautiful frescoes which date back to the late 1200s. Enjoy some time at leisure before returning to Chianciano Terme.

Day 8 - Pienza and Montepulciano

After breakfast this morning, visit Pienza, a hilltop town that dates back to the 9th century and has been a UNESCO World Heritage site since 1996. You have some free time here to explore the rustic streets built around its attractive main piazza, or perhaps to sample some of the local pecorino cheese. This afternoon, continue to Montepulciano for a guided tour of the gorgeous town. Montepulciano combines medieval and Renaissance to remarkable effect, and its enticing blend of history, architecture, and culture make it a delight to explore. The town is famous for its Vino Nobile & Rosso wines, and your tour ends with a tasting of some of these delicious local wines.

Days 9-10 - To Chambéry and London

After breakfast this morning, travel by rail to Turin where you overnight. On Day 10, take the train to Paris to join the Eurostar back to London.
