Venture into Italy today by rail as you journey to Milan in Italy. From here travel on to the shores of the azure Lake Garda and to the picturesque lakeside town of Toscolano-Maderno.
This charming commune is found in a small bay on the west coast of Lake Garda, and has an exceptionally pretty harbour lined with tiny bobbing sail boats. You check into our hotel before enjoying dinner later. After your meal, why not take a walk along the lake front and take in the fresh Lake Garda air?
Enjoy your first full day in Italy at leisure as you take in the gorgeous surroundings of this celebrated Italian lake. The excellent transport system around Lake Garda makes it easy to visit the charming villages and towns which dot the lakeside.
Your excursion today takes you on a journey to one of the world's most romantic cities - the charming metropolis of Verona. Packed with magnificent buildings, Renaissance architecture and fascinating museums Verona has inspired novels and plays thanks to its unique streets, noble historical monuments and important cultural position in Italy's history. On arrival, you are taken on a guided tour which includes the ever-impressive Roman Arena, Juliet's iconic balcony and the majestic city gates. Take a few moments as you walk to admire the myriad of superb Renaissance and Classical buildings, sculptures and artworks on your tour route.
After the tour, you have some free time. Why not visit a café to sample the excellent Italian food which is famous across the world? The pizza, pasta and pastries here are naturally sublime. On our way back to the hotel, we stop at a cantina to sample some local wines.
Take a boat journey across the tranquil Lake Garda waters to beautiful Sirmione today.
Sat on a peninsula stretching out across the lake, Sirmione is one of Italy's prettiest towns, looked over by the majestic Scaglier Castle, a 13th century medieval port castle. Enjoy free time here to explore the winding streets and sunny squares with their traditional Italian cafés and bars. Just outside the town is a wonderfully well-preserved Roman Grottoes of Catullus, the ruins of an ancient Roman Villa on the tip of the Sirimone Peninsula.
Your following day, Day 6, is yours. You may wish to explore the lake further or perhaps simply sit back and relax in the hotel, taking advantage of its excellent amenities.
Bid farewell to Italy today as you travel first to Verona by coach, before continuing from here across the Alps through to Innsbruck in Austria. From Innsbruck, we continue north across the Austro-Germanic border to the small, quaint town of Oberammergau. Here we check into our hotel in or around the town.
Just once a decade, the unassuming town of Oberammergau hosts the world's largest and most famous passion play detailing the final days of Jesus Christ.
With your tour, you are granted top tier seats near the centre of the auditorium, the perfect place to witness the 2,000 strong cast and crew put on one of the oldest continuous religious plays in the world. Oberammergau truly comes alive with the production which sees hundreds and thousands of visitors come to the village.
The play is split into two separate halves with a break halfway through for you to enjoy a special Passion Play dinner.
Leave Oberammergau today as you travel by rail to the Bavaraian town of Nuremberg. You have some free time here on arrival to enjoy Nuremberg. The medieval city centre is well worth a visit as is the impressive Hospital of the Holy Spirit.
On Day 10, depart Nuremberg by rail, travelling through Germany to Brussels where you board the Eurostar service to London. Here your tour comes to an end.
For the Passion Play Performance you will be seated in category 1 seats, located at the front and centre of the theatre.
