Discover the shimmering waters of Lake Levico
Discover the shimmering waters of Lake Levico, on a tour that soaks up a variety of charming Italian destinations, from the villages that surround Lake Garda to Treviso, Padua, and mountainous Trento.
Your holiday begins with a flight from London Gatwick to Verona. From here, you are met by a private coach for a transfer to Lake Levico, where your base is the delightful spa town of Levico Terme. Popularised in the 19th century for the suggested healing properties of its thermal waters, Levico Terme is home to a collection of pretty streets, delightful villas, and cycling trails that encircle the lake, providing cyclists with scenic views. After checking in to the Hotel Daniela, you enjoy dinner with the group tonight.
After breakfast at the hotel this morning, you embark on the first excursion of your holiday: an incredible exploration of Lake Garda. Lake Garda is Italy's largest lake, and one of its most popular; it is estimated that 7% of all travellers to Italy pay a visit to the lake and its surrounding villages as part of their experience. Your tour today takes in some of the villages that line the shore, starting with a coach journey directly to Salò. Situated at the foothills of Monte San Bartolomeo, Salò has a laid-back yet grand feel, with Liberty-era villas and pretty cobbled streets leading away from the sublime waters of Lake Garda. You have free time to explore the town's historic centre, before departing by boat for the second destination today: Sirmione. Situated on its own peninsula and surrounded on three sides by water, Sirmione is one of Lake Garda's most peaceful towns, which you discover during your leisure time here. Perhaps take a walk through the Old Town, home to the 13th century Rocca Scaligera - a castle set within its own moat.
Later, your final visit of the day is to Lasize, on the east shore of Lake Garda. Arriving by boat, you have free time to enjoy the pretty streets of Lasize, a town with origins in the medieval era. Lasize is also home to one of Lake Garda's only sand beaches, so this may be the perfect place for a stroll.
Following a long yet rewarding day, you are transferred by coach back to Levico, where dinner is served at the hotel this evening.
Your day is free to spend as you wish. Perhaps take a stroll around this picturesque town, or otherwise simply enjoy the hotel's facilities. Afternoon tea is included at the hotel during free days, so perhaps treat yourself.
Discover one of the lesser-known towns of the Veneto region today, with an excursion to Treviso. Despite being overlooked by the tourist crowds, Treviso has a graceful personality, modest despite its beauty; expect the medieval city walls, charming churches, cobbled streets, and elegant canals that have come to signify so many hidden Italian gems. On arrival, you take a guided walking tour, soaking up Treviso's architecture, from its broad piazzas to its historic buildings, including an impressive cathedral topped with a typical Italian duomo, and the Knight's Lodge,an ancient meeting house for knights and nobility that dates back to this spot, in one iteration or other, to the 13th century. Following the tour, you are free to explore Treviso under your own steam, before making the return coach journey back to Levico.
Today is free for you to relax. Perhaps take advantage of nearby Levico Spa Park, considered one of the most important historic parks in the Trento region. Around 600 trees populate the thirteen hectares of parkland, alongside some 50,000 bulbs that bloom each spring - a great place to enjoy Levico's scenery.
After breakfast today, you transfer by coach to Padua, one of the destinations referenced in Romeo and Juliet, and a stunning city to explore. Your guide meets you here for walking tour of Padua, taking in key sights including the Prato della Valle, a historic park, and the Palazzo della Ragione, a Gothic-style tribunal building that dates back to 1218. Following the tour, you transfer to Vicenza, one of the rare cities to boast UNESCO World Heritage status, thanks to its incredible architecture. On arrival, you have free time to arrange lunch, ahead of a guided tour. Vicenza is the home of the 'Palladian' style of architecture, named for the work of Andrea Palladio, whose urban structures and regional villas boast such a unique look, they have influenced the architecture of the greater Veneto area since the 16th century. Your tour here takes in many of the architect's finest works, including the Corso Palladio and the Piazza dei Signori, the heart of Vicenza.
