Relax in the scenic Moselle Valley, experiencing a lovely Christmas Market, a wine tasting, a scenic boat trip on the Rhine and a heritage rail journey.
Depart St Pancras by Eurostar to Brussels. Then continue to Luxembourg by train. Here, change to a local train to Löf, a village nestled at the bank of the Moselle River, where you will stay for six nights at the 4-Star Parkhotel Krähennest. Dinner is served every night in the hotel and includes a glass of wine.
On today's excursion, travel by train to Trier, on the banks of the Moselle. There is a wealth of impressive Roman and medieval buildings located around the city, including the famous Porta Nigra. Admire the half-timbered buildings of the main square and one of Germany's most popular Christmas Markets on an included guided tour.
Today, make the short journey by train to Cochem. After a guided walking tour, you are free to explore some of its many highlights including its most famous landmark, the magnificent 11th century Reichsburg Castle. Return to the hotel for a tasting of the local Moselle wines.
Today (Christmas Eve) travel to Boppard by regional train, along the left bank of the Rhine to this riverside village. Here you board one of the riverboats for a scenic Lorelei Valley cruise to St Goar, passing some of the Rhine Gorge's most beautiful scenery. After returning to Löf, enjoy a festive menu, followed by Christmas music in the bar.
After a leisurely start to Christmas Day, enjoy a guided walk through the countryside followed by a warming glühwein. Later, you will sample home-made stollen and coffee at the hotel before enjoying a special Christmas menu this evening.
Your Boxing Day excursion is a trip on the Vulkan Express. One of the region's most picturesque railways, head to Brohl by local train, hugging the Moselle and Rhine Valleys. Here you join the Vulkan Express heritage train. This privately owned narrow-gauge diesel train winds its way from the riverside across bridges and viaducts to Engeln.
Today we travel via Luxembourg to Brussels, where we connect with the Eurostar service to London.
