Departure Times

Departures on this Rail Discoveries tour depart by Eurostar from London St. Pancras after 12pm. We will write to you around 10 weeks before your departure date with the precise meeting times for your tour group.

Day 1

London to Bruges

Meet in Rail Discoveries' dedicated Departure Office at London St Pancras International before travelling by Eurostar to Lille followed by an onward coach journey to Bruges, a charming city with a picturepostcard centre. On arrival, check in to your hotel, where you will spend the next three nights.

Ypres Cloth Hall
Day 2


After a leisurely start to the day, begin an excursion by coach to Ypres, a town at the centre of intense fighting between the Germans and the Allied forces of the First World War. There are a number of monuments in Ypres, which record the tragic events of the Great War, including the Menin Gate. Starting in the centre of Ypres, you have some free time to visit the unforgettable 'In Flanders Fields' Museum (payable locally) in the famous Cloth Hall. After time for lunch, this afternoon there are visits to Tyne Cot Cemetery, the largest Allied cemetery; Hill 60, the sight of some of the most intense fighting of the First World War and Bayernwald trenches, the superb section of preserved German trenches where Hitler served in 1914/1915 and was awarded the Iron Cross close by. On arrival back in Ypres, you are free for dinner before returning to the Menin Gate to witness the moving Last Post ceremony, played every day at 8pm by the volunteer fire brigade.

Day 3


Set off on a guided tour of Bruges which has been a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 2000, and as you walk through the winding cobbled alleys and alongside romantic canals, it is easy to see why. Your tour begins at a famous artisan chocolate maker's in the heart of the city, where you have a chance to observe how the delicious confectionery is made.

Day 4

Bruges to London

Depart Bruges by coach and travel across the French border to Lille where you will join the Eurostar service back to London.
