The City of New Orleans is an Amtrak service that runs between Chicago and New Orleans, cutting down through the United States over a distance of 934 miles, stopping at many towns and cities, including famous Memphis, on its route that bisects the country from North to South. Initially opened in 1947, this line used to be the longest running time in America, at just under 16 hours, but has grown and expanded, including more stations on the way, and now has a journey time of 19 hours. This route boasts one of the highest performance rates of all the Amtrak lines.
On board, there is a Cross Country Café, serving regional cuisine in a modern setting, with comfortable booths in which to enjoy your food and look out at the passing scenery. The carriages all have large windows and comfortable seating with reclining capabilities. There might also be the option of a 'roomette', which comes complete with seats that convert into beds, climate control, and an electrical outlet.
