The California Zephyr connects Chicago in Illinois with the city of Emeryville in California. The journey and route is one of the most celebrated in North America. It climbs high into the Rocky Mountains, twisting and turning through narrow canyons and beneath towering mountain peaks, and follows the path of the mighty Colorado River. The train travels through the remote and breathtaking beauty of the western mountain wilderness, climbing over the famous mile-high Donner Pass in the heart of the Sierra Nevada Mountains.
Our section of the California Zephyr's route runs between Chicago and Denver, passing through the city of Omaha and crossing both the Mississippi and Missouri Rivers en route. After Denver, the California Zephyr continues to San Francisco Bay, passing Salt Lake City, Reno and Sacramento on its way to the Pacific Coast. In all, the California Zephyr train connects seven US states - Illinois, Iowa, Nebraska, Colorado, Utah, Nevada and California.
