Snaefell Mountain Railway

The Snaefell Mountain Railway is a 5 mile (8km) long electric railway which connects the village of Laxey with the summit of Snaefell, the Isle of Man's highest point. During the 30 minute journey, passengers travel up gradients of 1 in 12 in delightful wooden-bodied railcars dating back to 1895. On the way up, passengers can enjoy fantastic views over Laxey Glens and on a clear day, it may be possible to see Ireland, Wales, Scotland and England. A café at the summit offers you the opportunity to enjoy lunch and the stunning views at the same time!

“An interesting and well organised trip. It was quite often possible to ‘do my own thing’ rather than follow the planned itinerary in every detail. The hotel was comfortable and the food varied between good and excellent. It was very helpful to have pre-paid tickets for all public transport and many museums etc. The Isle of Man is scenically varied and the trams and railways are delightful.
