Llangollen Railway

The Llangollen Railway was formed in 1975 by a group of railway enthusiasts who wanted to open and run a heritage railway on the disused line. The original line was closed to passenger traffic in 1965 and to goods in 1968. The track and signalling was removed, and much of the infrastructure demolished or removed with it.

The track was reopened in 1975 on 60 feet of relaid track at Llangollen station. Since then, the line has increased to approximately 7½ miles in length, running through a beautiful stretch of countryside between the River Dee and the Berwyn Mountains.

The majority of the services operating on the line are steam-hauled.
