Baie De La Somme Railway

Our journey on the Baie de Somme Railway - also known by its full title of Chemin de fer de la Baie de Somme - allows us to enjoy an authentic heritage train whilst passing through the magnificent scenery around the Somme Estuary.

The train departs from Le Crotoy, a charming town on the Picardy coast. From here the railway heads slightly inland, running alongside the wide estuary of the Somme River. Passing through the pretty villages of Favières and Morlay, the line offers some wonderful views of the attractive surrounding scenery. Here a variety of flora and fauna can be seen, thriving in this region dedicated to conservation.

Before long the train reaches the station at Noyelles-sur-mer. The journey continues around the other side of the estuary, with views of the salt marshes - each lined with a thick covering of reeds and overlooked by willow trees. This particular stretch of the route is popular with the local wildlife; an array of birds and other creatures can often be seen swooping, diving or bathing here. Our journey then takes us along an embankment looking out across the plain towards Saint-Valery-sur-Somme. After curving around the edge of the bay, we then arrive in the town, at our journey's end.
