Day 1 - Harrogate
Meet your Tour Manager at your hotel in the beautiful Georgian spa town of Harrogate. You are free to explore at leisure this afternoon. This evening you will enjoy dinner at the hotel. (Dinner)
Day 2 - Visit to York
Travel by train to nearby York, a picturesque city with plenty of Roman and medieval architecture. Enjoy a guided tour of the main attractions taking in the towering gothic cathedral and the oldest street in York, the Shambles. You have an afternoon at leisure today to discover more. (Breakfast, Dinner)
Day 3 - North Yorkshire Moors Railway
An excursion today on the North Yorkshire Moors Railway* takes you to the heart of the North York Moors National Park travelling by steam train. Seated in heritage carriages you pass through scenic Levisham and Goathland. On arrival in Whitby you have some free time to discover this fishing port's Dracula links or to simply relax with some fish and chips by the seafront. (Breakfast, Dinner)
Day 4 - Free time in Harrogate
You have the day free in Harrogate, with its many parks and gardens, and of course the famous Betty's Tea Rooms. (Breakfast, Dinner)
Day 5 - Settle to Carlisle and Hadrian's Wall Lines
Join the Settle & Carlisle route for an incredible journey through the magnificent Yorkshire Dales, before arriving in the 'Border city' of Carlisle. From here, continue into Northumberland on the scenic Hadrian's Wall Line to Hexham, and then transfer by coach to the historic city of Durham, where you stay at the 4-star Radisson Blu Hotel. Day 6 - Durham
See the sights of Durham this morning on a guided walking tour including the Romanesque cathedral and 11th century castle, both UNESCO World Heritage Sites. (Breakfast, Dinner)
Day 7 - Tanfield Railway and Beamish Museum
Today journey on perhaps the oldest railway in the world, the Tanfield, which takes you along the line to Sunniside where you cross the Causey Arch in this heritage train. Continuing on to Beamish Open-Air Museum, you get to step back and time experience life in 1913. (Breakfast, Dinner)
Day 8 - Journey home
After breakfast, you are free to depart Durham with the rest of the UK easily accessible from the East Coast Mainline. (Breakfast)
