Day 1 - London to Rosas
At St Pancras International board the Eurostar for Paris, then travel by highspeed TGV direct to Figueres in Spain. At Figueres board a coach for the short journey to Rosas, set within the beautiful Bay of Rosas, on a rugged stretch of the Costa Brava. Rosas is an authentic Spanish fishing port which has retained its original charm and style. A fine sandy beach sweeps around the Bay of Rosas, set against a backdrop of the wild Cap de Creus National Park. After checking into the hotel, enjoy dinner, after which you may like to take a stroll along the promenade.
Day 2 - Coastal cruise to Cadaqués
Take a coastal cruise to Cadaqués around the rugged northern headland of the bay. As a protected National Park, the headland remains a beautiful stretch of untouched, untamed coast between Rosas and the pretty village of Cadaqués. Disembarking at this delightful fishing village, almost hidden within its own small bay, you can explore the charming white-washed houses - the inspiration for much of the work of surrealist painter Salvador Dalí, who lived nearby. A statue of Dalí stands beside Cadaqués' small pebbled beach. You have time to explore the winding streets and visit the Church of St Mary's to see its beautifully ornate interior. Returning to Rosas in time for lunch, you have the afternoon free.
Day 3 - A day at leisure in Rosas
You have the day free to explore Rosas or you may prefer to relax on the beach, enjoying the warm climate and sunshine. In Rosas you could visit the mighty Castell de la Trinitat at the head of the bay.
Day 4 - Barcelona
This morning, travel by coach to the magnificent city of Barcelona. The Catalonian capital is filled with unique and intriguing architecture and is a stylish city bursting with life and culture. A guided tour shows you the main sights, including the fascinating, unfinished Sagrada Familia and the bustling main street of Las Ramblas. You then have time to continue exploring, perhaps by visiting the remarkable Picasso Museum in the 'Barri Gotic' - the Gothic Quarter - or take a stroll along Las Ramblas, the beating heart of the city, filled with street performers and lined with pavement cafés, bars and stalls selling all manner of curiosities.
Day 5 - A day at leisure
Another free day in Rosas. If you wish, visit the ancient, medieval city of Girona, filled with fascinating buildings and architecture, particularly in the Old Town, where a thousand years of history is packed into just a few streets.
Day 6 - Figueres, Dalí and Besalu
This morning, travel by coach to Figueres, the birthplace of Salvador Dalí, to visit the fascinating Salvador Dalí Foundation, a large museum designed by Dalí himself. This gives you the chance to appreciate the incredible, diverse and often confusing works of the famous surrealist artist. You have time to continue exploring Figueres at leisure, perhaps discovering the pentagonal Sant Ferran Castle and the Gothic Church of St Peter, before visiting the historic town of Besalu, a grand old town dominated by a magnificent 11th century fortified bridge.
Day 7 - A day at leisure
Today you are free to enjoy Rosas at your leisure. A highlight would be to ride the 'Rosas Express' road train along the bay and up into the hills looking over the Mediterranean. Otherwise, you may prefer to relax on the beach or make use of the hotel's leisure facilities.
Day 8 - Homeward Bound
Leave Rosas by coach for Figueres and board the high-speed TGV directly to Paris, transferring to the Eurostar for London.
