Tour highlights

  • Rosas
  • Cruise to Cadaqués
  • Excursion to Barcelona including a guided tour
  • Figueres
  • Salvador Dalí Foundation
  • Besalu
  • Day 1 - London to Rosas

Our journey to the Catalan Coast begins at St Pancras International, where we board a morning Eurostar to Paris. After crossing the French capital by coach, we board the high-speed TGV on a direct service to Figueres in Spain, which means you can fully relax and unwind as the French countryside races by your window. On arrival at Figueres-Vilafant station we board a coach for the short transfer (30 minutes) to the town of Rosas. Set within the beautiful Bay of Rosas, on a rugged, rocky stretch of the Costa Brava, Rosas is an authentic Spanish fishing port which has retained its original charm and style. An almost endless stretch of fine sandy beach sweeps around the Bay of Rosas, set against a backdrop of the wild Cap de Creus National Park and the distant Pyrenean Mountain peaks. After checking into the hotel, we enjoy our first dinner together. Following dinner you may like to take a stroll along the wide promenade to enjoy a late drink in one of the many small Spanish bars.

  • Day 2 - Coastal cruise to Cadaqués

This morning we take a short stroll from the hotel to the harbour to board a boat for a gentle cruise along the rugged Catalan coast. As we cruise around the northern headland and out of the Bay of Rosas, you can start to see just how rocky and wild this stretch of coastline really is. As a protected National Park, the headland has not been developed, leaving a beautiful stretch of untouched, untamed coast between Rosas and our port of call, the pretty village of Cadaqués. This delightful fishing village is almost hidden within its own small bay - the village and its charming white-washed houses were the inspiration for much of the work of Salvador Dalí, the prominent surrealist painter. A statue of Dalí, who lived in a small house just behind the village, stands beside Cadaqués' small pebbled beach. You have time to explore Cadaqués at leisure - enjoy a gentle stroll through the narrow winding streets and visit the Church of St Mary's to see its beautifully ornate interior. We return to Rosas by boat in time for lunch. Your afternoon is at leisure.

    La Sagrada Familia, Barcelona

This morning we travel by coach to the magnificent city of Barcelona, capital of Catalonia. Filled with unique and intriguing architecture, Barcelona is a real city of style which is bursting with life and culture. During our time in the city we enjoy a guided tour of the main sights, including the fascinating, unfinished Sarada Familia and the bustling, busy main street, Las Ramblas. Following the tour you have time to continue exploring Barcelona at leisure. You could use the time to visit the remarkable Picasso Museum in the 'Barri Gotic' - the Gothic Quarter. You could also further explore Las Ramblas, undoubtedly the most interesting street in Barcelona and the beating heart of the Catalan capital, filled with street performers and lined with pavement cafés, bars and stalls selling all manner of curiosities.

    Roses promenade

Today you are free to spend the day at leisure in Rosas. Perhaps visit the ancient and medieval city of Girona, just a short journey from our base and one of the region's true hidden gems. Here we visit the fascinating Salvador Dalí Foundation, a large museum designed by Dalí himself which offers you the chance to appreciate the incredible, diverse and often confusing works of the famous surrealist artist. We also enjoy free time to continue exploring Figueres at leisure. Highlights of the city include the pentagonal Sant Ferran Castle and the Gothic Church of St Peter. Later we visit the historic town of Besalu, a grand old town dominated by its magnificent 11th century fortified bridge.

Or you could simply spend your final day in Spain relaxing on the beach or taking advantage of the leisure facilities at the hotel.
