Day 3 – A historic adventure at Locomotion museum and Beamish Museum
This morning your group steps back in time to experience the
birth of the railway era at Locomotion. The museum is close to the
former Timothy Hackworth's Soho Works - one of the world's first
railway engineering factories. It houses a significant collection
of locomotives, rolling stock, and railway artefacts, showcasing
the development of railways from the early steam era to modern
times.
One of the highlights of Locomotion is its impressive collection
of steam locomotives, including historic engines such as Locomotion
No. 1, which was the first steam locomotive to haul a passenger
train on a public railway.
Your journey through the ages continues, landing in 1913 as a
coach takes your group to the Beamish Museum next. Spanning over
300 acres, it showcases the history and heritage of the region
through reconstructed buildings, exhibits, and interactive
displays. Life-sized replicas of period locations are accurate down
to the finest detail. The Edwardian Town features recreations of a
typical inn, Co-operative store, sweet shop, bank and dentist.
Elsewhere you'll discover a recreated mining village and colliery,
an Edwardian railway station and steam railway, a Victorian farm,
and a luxurious manor house.
The coach drives your group back to the hotel and you have some
time to freshen up ahead of dinner this evening.
