“A varied exploration of Lisbon, Porto and the Douro valley on this rail, coach and easy walking tour. Introduction to the cities by local experts and comprehensive advice on how to access the many cultural and scenic attractions on offer. Excellent visit to winery in Douro Valley with no hard sell at the end! Hotels were of a very good standard especially the Grande Hotel do Porto with an attractive and characterful classical style. Tour leader provided excellent leadership and support with daily briefing notes and nothing seemed to be too much trouble.

“The first days journey was very long. It made us reluctant to join the daily coach excursoons which were also long. However, they were to intetesting destinations.

“Confused when tickets were on line and not on paper. Dismayed when the 7am Eurostar was moved to 6am. Once we left St Pancras International, the trip was smooth with a very helpful and competent Tout Manager. I would recommend this trip wholeheartedly.

“The Lake Garda trip was very good . Excellent hotels , wonderful scenery whilst travelling through Austria and Switzerland. Lovely trips to Venice and Verona .

“Stresa is a beautiful Italian town which we had already visited 3 times! (Once with Rail Discoveries) I was very pleased to try out my halting Italian and the locals, as ever, were very understanding. All the hotels and meals were good. Some of the rail travel was challenging especially for those with mobility 'issues', and the scenery, especially in Switzerland, is breathtaking.

“The hotel was in the most beautiful setting on lake Orta - food was excellent and the infinity pool superb. The journey both ways was long but worth it - especially with the first night in Turin. Our tour guide, Linda, was first rate - I would thoroughly recommend the trip especially if you’ve never been to the mountains and lakes before.
